Bentwood boxes are traditionally used to hold one’s most prized possessions. Crafted by First Nations artisans on Canada’s west coast, they are made by steaming cedar to bend it into shape. This one is decorated on top with a Bear design with abalone accents – symbolizing friendship, strength, healing and unconditional support. Crafted by Salish artist Shain Jackson, it measures 3.5″ square x 2.5″ high (9 cm x 6 cm) or 5″ square x 4″ high (12.5 cm x 10 cm).
