This elaborate horned bonnet is made from many animals, the spirits of which are transferred to the wearer. The brush wolf skin represents a good hunter and provider, the deer hooves are traditional ceremonial dance bells and the feathers reflect the hunting prowess of certain birds. A medicine pouch is also attached containing herbs and a talisman to protect the wearer. The inside of the hide is painted with imagery depicting the Battle of Batoche, May 1885, fought between the Northwest Mounted Police and Metis, Dakota Sioux and Cree forces.
