Mask – Protruding Tongue by Clarence Longboat

This mask was crafted by Onondaga craftsman Clarence Longboat. Inspired by the evil spirits which control disease, a Protruding Tongue mask is traditionally carved to wear in the curing rites of the False Face Society. This mask was carved in the traditional manner but was not blessed for use in ceremony. Crafted of pine, tin, and horsehair, it measures 12″/30 cm long plus horsehair.
